2 Corinthians 8:9 ICB: You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. You know that Christ was rich, but for you he became poor. Christ did this so that by his being poor you might become rich.
My dearly beloved friend in Christ, I bring you good news. Jesus Christ our Lord did a great and marvelous thing for us by letting go of His riches for our sake. He did this so that through His poverty, we might become rich. We are meant to have the good things of life in abundance so that we can help others who don’t have and even help in the spread of the gospel.
It will be a great injustice for Him to pay a price for our riches, only for us to settle for a life of poverty. Many even think that poverty is from God. And also that it’s difficult for rich people to make Heaven. This is certainly a wrong theology. God really wants you to have more than enough.
Look at what the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 9:11 ICB, God will make you rich in every way so that you can always give freely. And your giving through us will cause many to give thanks to God.
From the above, you can see that God was really talking about material possession and not only spiritual possessions. So, the next time you think of poverty, know that it’s not from God and certainly not his will. Reject poverty in any area of your life and open up your own heart and welcome the riches that Christ has gotten for you.
Declare to yourself loud: I am rich through Christ my Lord. I reject every form of poverty.
Lord Jesus, thank you for giving up your riches for my sake. Help me to take advantage of it. In Jesus Name. Amen.
