brothers, family

Mark 3:33‭-‬35 NLT: Jesus replied, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he looked at those around him and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. Anyone who does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.”

Have you ever been in a situation where you have to choose between your biological siblings or family and your family in the body of Christ? That was the case of Jesus in our text today. He clearly pointed out that the most important is to have a family in the body of Christ. Those who serve God sincerely and do His will.

Once you accept Jesus as your Lord and savior, your family line will be automatically changed. You will be adopted into a new family: the family or household of God. This view was captured in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians 2:19 “So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.”

This does not mean that we are to abandon our biological family. Rather we are to care for them and ensure that they also come into this family of God by turning to Jesus as their Lord and savior. However, if they are to be a hindrance to your service of God and his people, we must realize where our loyalty must lie. Jesus himself said anyone that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of being my disciple. Matthew 10:37.

Declare to yourself loud: I am a member of God’s family. Hallelujah.

PRAYERS
My Father and my God, may I never lose sight of the truth that I am now a member of your household. Thank you for adopting me into your glorious family. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
