Avoid anything that might discredit the name of Christ!

Philippians 2:12 AMP: So then, my dear ones, just as you have always obeyed [my instructions with enthusiasm], not only in my presence, but how much more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation [that is, cultivate it, bring it to full effect, actively pursue spiritual maturity] with awe-inspired fear and trembling [using serious caution and critical self-evaluation to avoid anything that might offend God or discredit the name of Christ].

My dear friend in Christ, Paul in our text today is calling on every believer to put in their best to ensure that the salvation they receive will be brought to maturity. And that it is possible for one to take for granted the instructions passed down to us in the Scriptures concerning the faith we profess and end up doing things that discredits the name of Christ.

There are those who are only enthusiastic about obeying the instructions when their leader or minister is watching. This should not be so. Since we know that God the father watches over us all the time, we must sustain the ability to be obedient at all times irrespective of who is watching. By constantly evaluating ourselves, we will avoid anything that is dragging us along the wrong path. I call you blessed.

Declare to yourself loud: I am eager to do the will of my father.

  1. My Lord and my God, help me to avoid anything that might discredit your name, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
  2. Please add your personal intentions.
