Hebrews 13:5-6 MSG: Don’t be obsessed with getting more material things. Be relaxed with what you have. Since God assured us, “I’ll never let you down, never walk off and leave you,” we can boldly quote, God is there, ready to help; I’m fearless no matter what. Who or what can get to me?
Our text today talks about being satisfied with what we already have and not be obsessed with acquiring material things. Notice the word “obsessed”. It indicates a situation where all that matters is that which we want not minding if God is pleased or not or if our neighbor is hurt or not. This is certainly from the devil. In other words, don’t desire other people’s properties or possessions.
We all have God on our side and He has promised never to leave us or forsake us no matter what. So there is no reason to be afraid of lack or failure. We all have special abilities to create and get what we need in this life. For the scripture says He has given us all things that pertain to life and godliness. 2 Peter 1:3. So, to be covetous is simply demonstrating unbelief in what God has said. When we realize that we have all we need by God, we will relax and be contented with what we have.
Declare to yourself loud: the lord is my helper, I will not be afraid of what man can do to me. Hallelujah.
Heavenly Father, help me to know all that you have given to me, that I may be contented with all I have. In Jesus Name. Amen.
