Judges 6:14-15 NET: Then the Lord himself turned to him and said, “You have the strength. Deliver Israel from the power of the Midianites! Have I not sent you?” Gideon said to him, “But Lord, how can I deliver Israel? Just look! My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my family.”
In our text today, we see God telling Gideon what he is made of. And that Gideon has enough strength to deliver the people of Israel from the power of their enemy. Gideon, on the other hand, did not believe that he has the strength. Instead of putting his faith in what God said about him, he was busy putting his faith in what he is seeing around him and what he was told by his people.
Because he could not see or feel the strength God was talking about, he felt he didn’t have what it takes; perhaps God was trying to encourage him to be brave and fight not knowing God meant what he said that he already had the strength. God is our creator, so he knows better than us.
Whose report do you work with my dear friend? Don’t allow the label your father, or mother or community or society gave to you to influence you. They can never be right about you. Only God your creator knows exactly who you are. And so whenever he says anything about you, rejoice and give Him praise for the wonders of what he did in you.
Live your life every day seeking what God says about you. If he says you are blessed, then say to yourself I am blessed by the lord. If he says he is always with you, then say to yourself I am under God’s protection, nothing can happen to me, I am safe… And so on.
Declare to yourself loud: I will work only with what God has said about me. I refuse to be influenced by the world’s view of me. Hallelujah.
Lord Jesus, I am a success all the time because of what you have done in me. In Jesus Name. Amen.
