1 Samuel 15:22 NCV: But Samuel answered, “What pleases the Lord more: burnt offerings and sacrifices or obedience to his voice? It is better to obey than to sacrifice. It is better to listen to God than to offer the fat of sheep.
My beloved friend in Christ, when you go through the entire chapter of today’s text, you will notice that God instructed Saul the king on something but he went and did another thing. Worst of it, he argued that he wanted to sacrifice to God. Our God is an all knowing God. His instructions are perfect. There are no additions nor subtractions. God is pleased if you listen to him and obey rather than trying to sacrifice to Him while disobeying His Commands.
Obedience is a sacrifice. Not many people are willing to take that path. It strips you of your pride and makes you subject to the one you obey. God is our father and maker. When we obey His commands, we are reaffirming our loyalty to Him and our willingness to be subjected to Him. Even when we are not sure of the outcome, we still obey, trusting Him to lead us in the right direction. Disobedience is an indirect way of saying that you don’t believe God. And no man can do business with God without believing in Him.
Let go of your pride and allow God’s instructions be your guide. Shalom.
Declare to yourself loud: here I am lord, I am ready to do your will.
- Heavenly Father, grant me grace for complete obedience.
- Precious Holy Spirit, remove anything that will cause me to disobey my God, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Please add your personal intentions.
