Luke 6:47-49 KJV: Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was great.
My beloved friend, Jesus did not promise us a life devoid of challenges; rather he said if we build our faith in him, the challenges of life cannot overwhelm us and bring us down.
Our text today showed the difference between the man who’s faith is built on the rock (Christ) and the man who fails to build on him. He said those that hear his teachings and do them, are the ones who’s house (life, faith) is built on him. Christ is our rock. He is our foundation. The rock here illustrates a solid foundation. What is the foundation by which you are building your faith? Is it on material things, man or on Christ?
Hearing the word of God and obeying it or doing it is simply believing in the Lord Jesus and applying the things he said in your life. It’s not only staying away from things that does not please God but also responding positively to his promises concerning your life. Knowing the things he has done and given to you and taking possession of it.
When sickness comes against you, you are to respond by rebuking it and calling forth health for Jesus said by his stripes you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24. The knowledge that Jesus has healed you and speaking those words over your life, means you are building your faith on the rock which Christ. It also means that you trust him for your healing.
When other challenges of life come out against you, look for the word of God concerning that situation and apply it to your life and speak God’s word over your life and you will surely be victorious. Those challenges cannot drown you or pull you down because your faith and trust are on Jesus. The Rock.
Declare to yourself loud: Christ is my rock. No situation can bring me down. Hallelujah.
Lord Jesus, help me to always rely on your word for every situation that comes my way. In Jesus Name. Amen.
