Mark 2:19-20 NLT: Jesus replied, “Do wedding guests fast while celebrating with the groom? Of course not. They can’t fast while the groom is with them. But someday the groom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast.
My dear friend in Christ, are you aware that fasting is a part of the believer’s life? Some people assume and say that Jesus Christ has concluded all for them and that He fasted so that they won’t fast again. This is a wrong belief system created by hyper grace believers. They assume that there is no need to fast. Jesus Himself has pointed out that when He (the groom) will be taken away, then they will fast.
Fasting is a compulsory exercise just as eating. You are expected to fast at least once in a week or two more in order to keep fit spiritually. It is a spiritual exercise and it is profitable in every way. Notice what the Bible says in 1 Timothy 4:8 “Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is valuable in every way, because it promises life both for the present and for the future.”
You are doing yourself a great disservice if you ignore fasting and prayer. Fasting without prayer and study of the word is hunger strike. Ensure that you find time to pray and study when you engage in fasting. Praying in the spirit is a great advantage during the fasting period. I encourage you to take it serious and put forward a plan on how to make fasting a habit. Remember, you are to fast within the limits of your strength and capacity. You are blessed.
Declare to yourself loud: the lord is my strength when I fast.
- Oh Lord my God, cause me to remember to fast and pray, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Please add your personal intentions.
