James 2:15-16 NLT: Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do?
My dear friend in Christ, to be a follower of Jesus entails more than going to church every Sunday and paying your tithes or praying all the time. It also involves showing practical love to those around us. The Bible says that God allows the sun to shine on both the good and evil. There are people who don’t believe that certain people should be assisted to feed or even put on good clothing. They feel they deserve leftover foods and torn clothes. It is wickedness to give someone food that is spoilt or clothes that are torn.
As a child of God, you must be sensitive to the needs of those around you. They must not be related to you before you help them. Do not be too spiritual that you ignore their basic needs. The Bible pointed out today that it is useless saying to someone who needs food “be blessed” when you can actually give the person food. Some do this out of stinginess and unwilling to release what they have for fear of its not enough.
Proverbs 19:17 says “… When you give to the poor, you are actually lending to the Lord and He will surely repay you”. Therefore, I encourage you to take the task of helping others meet the basic needs of life very seriously irrespective of who is involved. Do not say, he is my enemy and so let him die. Rather, help such a person out the much you can and watch God bless you abundantly. Shalom.
Declare to yourself loud: I will care for the needy.
1. Heavenly Father, cause me never to ignore the poor when I can be of help to them, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
2. Please add your personal intentions.
