2 Corinthians 1:3 AMPC: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of sympathy (pity and mercy) and the God [Who is the Source] of every comfort (consolation and encouragement).
My dear friend in Christ, I want you to know that you have an advantage over an unbeliever because you have a loving Father who is the source of every comfort. When we go through the challenges of life, many take to different means to comfort themselves without actually seeking comfort from their father. All other sources of comfort are only temporal and cannot suffice.
God was the comfort Christ had when He was on earth as a man. Jesus went through so much that only a Supernatural source of comfort could keep Him going. Sometimes, the challenges of this life are so complex that no matter how hard you try to comfort yourself on your own, you will only end up giving up altogether because you won’t even know where to begin.
The Bible is reminding us today to seek comfort from God. He is there as our father to encourage us, console us when we grieve especially when we lose loved ones and also show us mercy when we make mistakes or become unfaithful to Him. Begin today to recognize Him as your father, lean on Him whenever you are hurting for comfort and consolation. You will discover that life is easier for you and that you don’t need to go through all the pains alone.
Declare to yourself loud: the lord is my comforter.
Heavenly Father, the source of all comfort, console me when I am hurting. Direct my heart towards you to seek solace from you alone. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
