1 Timothy 4:8 GNB: Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is valuable in every way because it promises life both for the present and for the future.
Most often, we exercise our bodies physically to keep fit to stay healthy and strong. But we often neglect the most important of all which is a spiritual exercise. Our text today points out that spiritual exercise is valuable in every way, both in this life and the life to come.
We are spiritually weak because we do not exercise our spirit. It is the spirit that gives life. We are therefore called to exercise our spirit in fervent prayer and study of the word. Also to put into action that which we have discovered therein.
This is in line with what the Bible says in JUDE 1:20 AMP: But you, beloved, build yourselves up on [the foundation of] your most holy faith [continually progress, rise like an edifice higher and higher], pray in the Holy Spirit.
Make out time daily to pray in the spirit thereby exercising your spirit. And nothing that comes against you shall prevail.
Declare to yourself loud: I am strengthened by the spirit in my inner man. Hallelujah.
Lord Jesus, may your strength take over my weaknesses that I may always exercise my spirit to the glory of your name. In Jesus Name. Amen.
