Mark 7:11 NLT: But you say it is all right for people to say to their parents, ‘Sorry, I can’t help you. For I have vowed to give to God what I would have given to you.’

My dear friend in Christ, there are many who in the name of religious obligations have engaged in wicked acts that are contrary to the word of God. They care less about those around them. As far as they are concerned, fulfilling their religious obligation is more important than helping their families or neighbors. This is the scenario Jesus pointed out in today’s text. Those who refuse to help their parents simply because they have vowed to give to God what they would have used to help their parents. This was endorsed by their religious teachers.

Jesus called such religious leaders blind people and also those who listen to them and do as they are instructed are also blind. Jesus noted that both of them will fall to their destruction. In your dealings with God, when you demonstrate love for your neighbor, it’s an evidence that you know God and love Him. Don’t deny assistance to those in dare need simply because you have vowed to give it to God. Don’t ignore someone in dare need of your assistance simply because you are on your way to church. Jesus Himself noted that “whatever you do to my brothers, you do unto me”. Mathew 25:40.

That a religious instruction is coming from a religious leader does not automatically mean it is right or safe to do such. The Holy Spirit through the scriptures (the Bible) is the only sure guide to knowing what is right or wrong. Only the holy spirit is infallible. He alone can confirm to you if what you’re doing is along the path of righteousness. That’s why the Bible says test all spirits. 1 John 4:1.

Well, many don’t study the word of God for themselves or even have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit, as such they are ignorant of many things about God. Therefore when they recieve certain religious instructions, they lack the capacity to discern if it’s man made or in line with God’s word. Stop waiting for people to read and interpret the Bible for you. Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you through the study of God’s Word in the Bible. That is the only way you won’t be misled by others. I call you blessed.

Declare to yourself loud: I will demonstrate my love for God through my neighbors.

1. Oh Lord my God, teach me your ways and grant me wisdom to know what you want me to do at every moment of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
2. Please add your personal intentions.

Matthew 25:40-46
