Mark 14:71-72 MSG: Now Peter got really nervous and swore, “I never laid eyes on this man you’re talking about.” Just then the rooster crowed a second time. Peter remembered how Jesus had said, “Before a rooster crows twice, you’ll deny me three times.” He collapsed in tears.
My dear friend in Christ, whenever we go through this passage, we tend to look away from ourselves as if it is the thing of the past which concerns Peter alone. But the truth is that we are faced with this choice everyday of our lives by either denying Jesus or standing up for Him. We deny Him through our actions and not necessarily by what we say. Let it be a subtle reminder for you today that anything you say or do in selfishness (just to favor you alone) by deliberately ignoring God’s word amounts to denial of Jesus. That was exactly what Peter did. He wanted to protect Himself and forget about Jesus. How often have you kept Jesus aside and decide to do it your way.
Realize today that when you find yourself in such a situation, do not hesitate to acknowledge your faults and seek for mercy from Jesus. Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you and give you courage to stand up for Jesus everyday of your life. Remember that the Bible says that whoever wants to save his life will lose it but whoever looses his life for my sake, will find it. Matthew 16:25.
Declare to yourself loud: I will stand up for Jesus.
- Holy Spirit, fill my heart with courage to stand up for Jesus in times of trial.
- Oh Lord, may I never deny you for the sake of material things of this life.
- Lord Jesus, deliver me from temptations. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
- Please add your personal intentions.
