Mark 7:7 AMP: They worship Me in vain [their worship is meaningless and worthless, a pretense], Teaching the precepts of men as doctrines [giving their traditions equal weight with the Scriptures].’
My dear friend in Christ, our society is full of cultural norms, ideas and values. Many uphold these cultures and traditions with high sense of regard. When you begin to give equal weight or value to your traditions with the scriptures, you are definitely heading to damnation. The word of God should be held high above every culture or traditions of men.
Make no mistake that you can separate your Christian life from your secular life. Some assume that Sundays are for God only and the remaining days of the week are for them to do whatever they please. Some will even say “do not bring church or religion into this matter”. Once you become born again, every other life you had has been subplanted with the life of God. You cease to be who you were. And so this life should be represented wherever you go. Your country, village, culture, traditions, all should come secondary when it comes to the things of God.
We are called today to eschew hypocrisy and worship God from our hearts. Don’t be a Christian on Sunday and become something else during the week or when you go to your village or place of work. In Mark 7:8, Jesus said to the Jews, “You disregard and neglect the commandment of God, and cling [faithfully] to the tradition of men.” Do not cling to your traditions. It cannot save you. Only Jesus can save. Shalom.
Declare to yourself loud: I will worship you Lord with all my heart.
- Lord Jesus, give me the grace never to cling to the traditions of men.
- Precious Holy Spirit, help me to worship God from my heart. In Jesus Name. Amen.
- Please add your personal intentions.
